Autorickshaw’s So The Journey Goes is an eclectic blend of jazz and traditional Indian music. Even if you don’t understand the language, this mix blends so well that it’s easy to simply become lost in the music. The band eases the transition for less worldly listeners by starting with an English tune, and the title track is a jazzy little ditty that has very few words, most of which are in the title. The album’s other English track is a cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Bird on a Wire,” and while many covers can’t match the original, Autorickshaw’s version is simply beautiful. It’s less jazzy and more soulful, and vocalist Suba Sankaran tames Cohen’s words nicely. -MEGAN HALL, Vue Weekly, Edmonton
