Alexina Louie: Concerto for String Quartet and Orchestra
(TSO/CBC Co-Commission/World Première)

String quartet, massed cellos, and a pipa are the featured instruments at the second concert of the New Creations Festival. The internationally renowned Tokyo String Quartet (in which Peter Oundjian played First Violin for many years) performs a world première by Canadian composer Alexina Louie. Tan Dun’s Pipa Concerto – a traditional Chinese plucked string instrument – is sure to be a crowd favourite.
